The football industry is one of the fastest-changing ones in the world. There is a big history there and also a lot of pride. Fans love the logos of their favorite teams and they really believe in what that symbol stands for. This is also valid for the Juventus logo that was first established in 1897. This team is one of the most successful and famous teams that play football.
What is a bit funny about them is that they first played in pink t-shirts back in 1903? However due to a factory mistake instead of pink their t-shirt was made using black and white and because the team did not have money to create new ones, they remained with this color for the next 100 plus years.
Indeed, this logo has a rich history and the team went through a lot of changes as well. So, let’s discover together more about the Juventus football club and how did they end up with the brand that so many fans know today throughout the entire world.
The History of Juventus
Juventus was founded back in 1897 by some school students but they did not play any official league match until 1900 when they qualified and started to wear the pink shirts. The current uniform that they have has the black and white that was adopted in 1903.
Two years later their first major win happened when they won the Italian League Championship. The Agnelli family were the owners of the Fiat company and they gained control of the club back in 1923 and by 1926 Juventus already won their second Italian league title.
In the 1930s Juventus really had a great period because it won five Italian league championships and nine of their team members were in the Italian national squad that won the 1934 World Cup.
The Juventus Logo
If you look at the branding perspective you will see that European football is dominated by a variety of historical elements that are related to cities and regions. Usually, there are no regulations that ask for a football logo to be done in a certain way and the Juventus logo is one that kept its tradition but also brought some other elements.
The Juventus logo has the black and white stripe pattern that you can see through their brand and a big “J” with the club’s name on top of it. The design of the new “J” looks good and shows both the traditional stripes together with the shape of a shield that helps you compare the logo with more traditional soccer teams’ symbols.
The Emblem
When they changed from the traditional oval shape their fans were a bit annoyed by the change but because of its simplicity and memorability it still makes a good logo. The Juventus logo is surely doing a good job and its fans are still going to like it.
Juventus logo History and evolution
Since the first design concept, the club has had nine more versions of their logo. The first one appeared in the year of 1905 and was inspired from the 19th-century city insigne having on top a white belt that had a Latin inscription, the motto of the club that was a famous quote of Paolo di Tarso, a Christian theologian from the 1st century.
1921
In 1921 the logo had lost some of its decorative elements, the insigne of the city of Turin was added and the shield was isolated.
1929
Juventus also decided to choose an animal to put in their logo and they went with the zebra due to the chromatic links. A journalist named Carlo Bergoglio also proposed in 1928 to include the shield and the profile of a zebra because it was a symbol of nobility in the West.
This version of the Juventus logo appeared in 1929 with 9 strips but it didn’t last too much because in 1931 the Juventus new logo was revealed. They went back to the city insigne having a blue background together with a golden bull and the name of the club in golden characters.
1950
In 1950 the color of the background was also changed in white together with the shield. By 1959 the first golden star could be seen on the uniform and it represents the tenth Italian title that was conquered by the team. Actually, in 1982 the team already had 20 titles.
1971
1979
In 1979 Juventus introduced a logo that had the image of a black silhouette that became the symbol of the team. They also added a start that was representing the ten championship titles that were one and after they reached twenty titles a second star was added as well to the Juventus badge.
1993
Again, this year brought changes to the coat of arms. The internal elements were expanded, two gold stars were located above and the background of the club name was painted in white.
2004-2007
Between these years the Juventus logo had an oval shield with seven vertical strips inside, three were black and four were white.
You could also see the inscription “Juventus” on the background in the upper part of the logo. The bull represented the symbol of the city of Turin and had a black crown. The gold stars god removed because they were a sign of their results but, not their personality.
2012
In 2012 the Juventus logo didn’t have any stars anymore and the new version was introduced. The fans were shocked by the new logo and the club management response was this new logo will bring the new real-world club.
For sure the new Juventus logo brought some new expectations for the fans and we will have to see what the future is going to bring in terms of results.
