Paul Renner designed the Futura font in the hope of creating a revolutionary font that would change the way books were printed in Germany. By that time, most books were printed in blackletter scripts, and the Futura font changed that trend.

This geometric sans-serif was first a part of the New Frankfurt project where more other fonts were involved, but later achieved a lot of success and was then submitted to the Bauer Type Foundry, where it found its place as one of the most popular fonts. The Futura font is composed of simple geometric shapes – circles, triangles, and squares. The Rise of Futura

How did Futura develop, you might ask? Well, it was launched 85 years ago, and quickly became popular due to its high functionality and because it brought a new dimension to the market. Since then, it was used in many prestigious projects, such as the font for Kubrick’s work and as a font for the Volkswagen advertising campaign.

That only spread the popularity of the font, and many people wanted to recreate the font themselves. The font itself has many different weights – the condensed, Demibold, display, black, and other versions are the most prominent. Let’s take a look at the best fonts similar to Futura.

Muli

The first on the list is Muli, a minimalist sans-serif that has many uses – both as a text font as well as a display font.

Vernon Adams developed the original, and Jacques le Bailly later added the Sans version in the hope of creating a non-rounded terminal version.

Noir was heavily based on many fonts from the 20^th century, including the Futura font. It has a distinct geometric structure, which makes it similar to Futura. Twentieth Century

It was designed as an alternative to Futura, although it does retain many of the qualities of the original geometric font. Namely, it keeps the attitude of Futura and the character, but it has seen some enhancements that make it more suitable for use in the digital era.

Ano

Anohas some exciting features that make it a unique proposition. Although it is loosely based on Futura, some great capabilities of the font are included. Most notably, it features an italic version that slopes backward and a fascinating upper-lower style. All in all, it is one of the most exciting fonts similar to Futura.

League gothic

Released by The League, this gothic is a sans-serif font that has a very condensed style to it. Its design was largely based on the form of the Alternate Gothic font, which was first released in 1903. This font, however, has some unique features that will make it appeal to anyone.

ITC Avant Garde Gothic

The next on the list is the ITC Avant Garde Gothic font that was created in 1970. Originally based on the fonts from the 1920s, this font quickly rose in prominence and was used in the commercial sense, most notably in the advertising campaign by Adidas. FF Super Grotesk

Designed and released in 1999, the FF Super Grotesk font was intended originally as an alternative to the Super Grotesk font from the 1930s, which was a trendy font at the time. But the designer of this font, SvendSmital, wanted to create something similar to the original while also keeping a unique feel to this new project. He succeeded in that, and the FF Super Grotesk is nowadays one of the more popular fonts out there. Consider it as an alternative to Futura.

LORIN
