A Look at PANTONE’s Minion Yellow

Thursday, December 3, 2015

MinionsEarlier this year, The Pantone color institute announced the release of an exciting new color Minion Yellow. The color is of course based on the Minion characters from the popular global film Minions from Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me.

“Color is contextual and right now there is a desire for colors that are more vibrant and uplifting. This is especially the case with the yellows, so given the worldwide popularity of the Minions, it seemed only natural to name a color after a character for the first time in our history,” – Laurie Pressman, Vice President, Pantone Color Institute.

The Pantone Color Institute has an entire department dedicated to research and tracking human emotion based on the influence of color. They identified a need for a more energizing lively color to enrich consumers lives. Pantone worked with the animation team at Illumination Entertainment to study the range of color usage in the entertainment industry and identify the best representation of Minion yellow. The result is a custom formulated color that represent the iconic, lovable characters.
