Design your way

Coming soon pages have developed with improvements in technology and web design and they are now much more than pages that simply inform that a site is under construction.

It can act as a landing page that gives visitors information about the website that is being designed and the product that will be offered. It can increase the level of anticipation in potential users and allow them to be notified when the product is ready to be launched.

If the page does not contain any information about the service or the date it will be launched then visitors may not return. Visitors can choose to receive news updates about the product or service and can increase levels of anticipation in potential users about the product.

It should be a teaser for your visitors

There are many examples of teaser websites that exist online today but there are good reasons for using them, although some people take the view that the time and effort that is spent on designing this type of page would be better spent on the development of the product.

A launch can be more successful if the teaser is good quality. Raising awareness of the product is important because people are more likely to purchase a product that they are already familiar with.

If people are aware of a new product as soon as possible and are given details about it then they are more likely to have high anticipation of the product. It can be an advantage to have people know in advance about the product that has been created.

An opportunity to create a strong identity

A strong brand will remain in the memories of potential users and will create awareness of the product. The brand includes features such as the style and colors of the design and the logo. The brand can help keep continuity between the coming soon page and the website after the launch, as the two can be very different.

In some cases a strong brand can create an identity for a product that people recognize even if they are not entirely sure what the product is really for. The brand can be more than just the logo and the colors used.

Make an interesting design for it

The only thing that can make a product more memorable than a strong brand is a gimmick that is only associated with that particular product and nothing else.

Animations are a popular technique that are used to create gimmicks and it is common for these to be created using either CSS transitions and CSS animations. When the product is launched these types of animations on the website can become overwhelming but they are ideal for use on coming soon pages.

Intrigue the visitor

If the product is not one that the visitor will want to use then it makes no difference what methods are used to create a good landing page. There needs to be information about what the product does and what the benefits of using it are in order for people to want to share the teaser.

Many teasers fail because they don’t make people interested enough in the product. Information can be given about the product in the form of excellent copywriting, a short video or screenshots.

It may be that there are some restrictions on the details that can be revealed about the product but enough information should be given to make people interested.

The main aim of the coming soon page is to generate interest in the product and the website and to ensure people come back to it when the product has launched. Even though some information needs to be released about the product creating some anticipation can keep visitors interested.

People are more likely to sign up for updates from the site if they are curious about the product. People are also likely to discuss the product with their friends and this can increase traffic to the site and may even attract attention from the media

Build an audience before launching the product

After your teaser goes viral you’ll get a lot of visitors to the site and you shouldn’t just stand and do nothing about this. You should take advantage of traffic by collecting emails for your future product. You can use MailChimp, Campaign Monitor or AWeber to do that. They have customizable forms that you can place on your website to integrate with your design and gather subscriptions.

You will want to create subscriptions for sure because this way you will have guaranteed returning visitors to your site once it is launched. It’s quite impressive how much good can do a simple subscription form, especially when you are getting visitors that are directly interested in your product.

The subscription form is seen quite often on launching soon pages, because email has and will be for a long time king when it comes to internet promotion. You should use a clear message near the subscription form so that the visitors will know what to expect. Being transparent will help you to increase your subscriber amount.

Also, besides gathering emails from your visitors, you should also be placing social media icons on the coming soon page so that your visitors can follow you on networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+. These are very useful and they can be an alternative to the people who don’t want to give you their email address.

Showcase

Offering a showcase is extremely useful. I know this because I too am a designer and, being a visual person, I want to actually see designs that would inspire me and guide me to create a certain type of page correctly.

I try to put myself in the shoes of the people that are reading my articles and I know that if I was working on a prelaunch landing page for a product, I’d want to see some great examples of how it has to be done. Here are a few examples that will inspire you and which will help you to enrich your knowledge of how to design a coming soon page.

Conclusion

Even though the landing page is only temporary, there still needs to be thought put into it’s design. The purpose of the page is to attract people and make them want to sign up to receive more information about the site. If the coming soon page is good quality then this can ensure that this does happen.

Three things tend to be achieved by the best pre-launch pages. An insight is given into the product, how it works and what problems it can help with and can build excitement about the product.

The page can give some finer details about the product and the features and benefits that it has. The most important step is that visitors can register their interest in the site and sign up to receive further information. This means that when the product is launched, there will be a list of potential buyers already in place.
