Every person in the design industry should be looking for new ways to expand their creative genius. Each design must be useful and enhance the life of the user. It must also be beautiful, or at the very least not ugly. It’s got to be easy on the eyes and engaging.
This is especially true when designing websites. People make a decision in an instant based on the visual appeal and you don’t get to redo the first impression. From Apple’s iPhone line to Nike sneakers it is easy to find a lot of examples of products that are both attractive and highly functional to be inspired by.
Sometimes you come to a site that just wows you. You don’t just want to study those sites. You want to be the creator of these sites. Maybe you scroll through their source code to figure out how they created one element or another.
Copying them won’t help your creativity. You need to be thinking for yourself. Yes, you need to be inspired by others and see what others are doing in your niche, but you need to have your own ideas and your own design sense. If you don’t you might be in the wrong industry.
