Browserhacks offers CSS & JS workarounds for free

Thursday, October 15, 2015

Web browsers have come & gone with many interations in-between. Microsoft’s new Edge Browser is a clear example of IE users falling off the market base.

However with so many people stuck in older legacy browsers, developers must consider the alternatives. This leads us to hacked solutions in CSS and JavaScript so that our features run properly in all browsers.

Rather than hard-coding everything from scratch why not use Browserhacks? It’s a free resource for building clean hacks that specifically fix problems addressed in a variety of browsers.

Here’s a quick rundown of how the workflow operates:

  1. Pick the hack you want
  2. Copy it into your stylesheet
  3. Add the style you want between the braces
  4. Enjoy the new styles for the browser you targeted!

Note that these hacks can affect both desktop and mobile browsers, so developers are given a lot of flexibility.

Anyone who wants to contribute can learn more on the GitHub repo.
