By blurring the boundaries between art and design, Edourdo Bessa is now focusing his attention on a new way of creating imagery. He calls himself a geek designer, as he is interested in the science of how we view the images that we see and identify with.
This latest graphical invention by the artist is titled Pictodotz. Images of popular characters from the media and the Geek world are recreated using circles of color that have been split into quarters. Each quarter contains a different color and this then builds an image of the character. The circles sit on a black background and are built up until they create the shape and overall image of the character.
What’s interesting about the Pictodotz design, is that it can seem like the character that it portrays is difficult to see, even though we can tell who it is almost instantly. What the Pictodotz designs are essentially doing is confronting the relationship between our vision and our brain capacity for identification.
