Do you really need to pay much attention to icon sets on your website? The answer is yes.

The primary purpose of icons is to guide visitors to where they want or need to go. If you want your visitors to make a purchase, your icon for payment needs to be clear and obviously placed.

If you want to guide your visitor to the next page or contact you, the icon needs to catch the attention of your visitors and allow smooth and easy communication between you both. Many sales have been lost because visitors are unable to navigate a site easily due to poorly placed icons or worse, no icons at all.

For the website designer, creating your own custom icons for each project can be time consuming and impractical. If you are in this situation, try using some icon sets created by other designers. It is easy to download icons and use them on your site. There are a lot of really good icons that are easily recognizable and get people’s attention.

The most important thing to remember is that any icon sets you use should not only be pleasing to the eye, but communicate exactly what you want them to communicate.
