I think that there is no designer not to be involved in the harsh “battle” between skeuomorphic and flat design. Fortunately, these kinds of battles are very useful for the entire design community and even for the users, therefore don’t be scared about. But what in fact is this “battle”?

Apple is still a great company that has an immense influence in design and its style was to implement as much as possible the reality into functional design. It’s called skeuomorphism and it seems to clutch the designers’ minds.

Microsoft, another great company, doesn’t accept this situation and offered a different solution. Metro style isn’t the invention of Microsoft, but clearly, the rebirth of it is the kudos of Bill Gates’ company. In opposition to skeuomorphism, flat design is simple and of course, flat. It is characterized by the lack of shades and gradients, the main idea behind being “content before chrome”.

Which style is better is a common question and the answers are different. Personally, I don’t think that flat is better than skeuomorphic or vice-versa, it’s about how the designer is crafting his project. A good designer has the possibility of creating a wonderful website no matter if it is influenced by flat or skeuomorphic solution.

Anyway, it’s sure that we will enjoy many websites based in the new flat approach, but also it’s 100% sure that skeuomorphic won’t ever be dead.
