Many popular metal bands like Motorhead, Slayer or DIO, have used heavy metal fonts for their band covers and it is still in use today. The spirit of metal band music is mostly hard and fast music with much aggression.

With the popularity of metal bands in the mid-70s, rough, fast-paced and powerful music composition along with font aesthetics made its way. Typography on band covers depicted the band’s logo more than its meaning.

There are many variations in the different types of metal fonts available. Most of the times the heavy metal fonts used in the bands define the genre of music or reflects the music of different bands and artists.
